$4 Bowl of Wonders Worth Coming Back For Traditional Famous Prawn Mee

A slow and rainy weekend.

On days like this, you sometimes would crave for something soupy, but since it’s a weekend, I was looking for something a little less bland.

So on my friend’s recommendation, we took a walk just around the neighbourhood to have a go at this prawn noodle shop that we have heard about from the neighbours.

Simple store set up.

𝗔 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘁𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳.

We arrived at this coffee shop facing a trendy hawker centre. There was a queue at the coffee shop, and we realised it was for the said prawn noodle shop.

Bee hoon and noodle soup.

This piqued our interest. To see a line forming in a coffee shop where a choice number of food options were just directly opposite… There is definitely something going on here.

The queue that never seems to end.

While we patiently wait in line for our turn, we looked around. We noticed that a sizeable number of customers in the coffee shop were tucking into a bowl of prawn noodles, both the soup and dry version.

Hmmm… Are they really that good?

We wondered.

As our line shortened, we had a closer look at the stall—just a simple shop, with small tubs of ingredients ready to be assembled.

Stacked ingredients ready to be assembled.

Two large pots of what we assume to be the soup, one for cooking, and another containing a brew of the prawn broth. Soon it was our turn, and we placed an order for both a soup and a dry version—nothing fancy, just the simple $4 bowl.

We were served quickly, promptly we sat down and got ready to eat this seemingly popular dish with exciting anticipation.

$𝟰 𝗯𝗼𝘄𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀!

Visually, the two bowls are already looking pretty inviting. The ingredients were arranged neatly in the bowl, almost the same way for both bowls. A small bowl of the dark, steaming, delicious-looking broth was served by the side for the dry version.

As for the soupy version, the delicious-looking bowl was bathed in the same broth.

Yummy!

We both started with a sip of the broth. Both our eyebrows perked up a little… Wow! The flavours were fantastic!

This soup can do well on its own against some of the top prawn noodle shops in Singapore! It is sweet, appetising and full of the flavours that tasted like hours of steely hard work.

The ingredients are cooked just right. Portions are perfect as well. The prawns themselves are whole and have a nice crunch to it. The tension and texture are just fantastic!

The dry version is sauced well, with the taste of the meal perfected by the delicious broth accompaniment.

Prawn noodles… Bee hoon… Dry… Looking good!

Personally, I prefer the soup version. Everything is immersed in the delightful broth, and every mouthful is packed full of mouth-watering infused deliciousness!

A really worthwhile $4 bowl of wonders worth coming back for!
