One of the best soya sauce chicken I’ve had! – Maria (Ma Li Ya Virgin Chicken)
In the world of food, amongst my favourite, is the soya sauce chicken. But alas, you’ll be surprised at how many stalls can mess up this dish. The chicken will either be too dry or lacking in flavours overall. So far, there is only one stall that many don’t talk about, which I will speak of another day, that, in my opinion, makes the best soya sauce chicken.
I was lamenting about this to friends over drinks when they recommended that I check out this stall in Chinatown.
I first thought they meant Hawker Chan, but no, apparently it was Hawker Chan’s mentor they were talking about, Maria Virgin Chicken. Also known as Ma Li Ya Virgin Chicken.
So I found myself at the store’s queue on a Saturday. The two ladies at the booth were already hard at work. Lunch had just started not long, and the orders were flying out, many for a whole chicken. By the time it was my turn to order, about half of the available chickens were already gone.
I got myself a plate of their triple combo. It comes with the signature soya sauce chicken, a side of the silky, delicious-looking tofu, and a serving of crunchy bean sprouts.
I began my meal with their signature chicken, and with that, I no longer have only one place to go to when I crave for soya sauce chicken! The chicken is delicious! It’s full, tender, juicy, and the delightful taste of the soya sauce is plentiful! It’s no wonder people are placing orders for the whole chicken to go!
Next, also their signature, the tofu. I’ve never tasted silky tofu that’s so flavourful! I dare say it’s even tastier than the chicken! However, it complements the meal very well. The tofu is soft, silky smooth, just enough tension to keep it together but has that incredible melt in your mouth sensation. The soya sauce’s flavours have somehow infused itself with the tofu, and when you mashed it up to eat with the rice, fantastic! 🤤
And even the crunchy bean sprouts are good! It gives the whole meal a refreshing feel.
A satisfying meal! I’ve not tried Hawker Chan, which I will find an opportunity to check out. But, I’m glad that besides my usual soya sauce chicken staple, I now have Maria Virgin Chicken to satisfy my cravings. 😋
Overall, an excellent recommendation from my friends. I’ll encourage you to check them out if you haven’t already! 👍🏻
