Lunchtime Meat Galore at Alex’s Eating House

Along Beach Road, right across the former Shaw Towers, lies this place that serves one of the best roast meat around the area.

I got to know about this place when I used to work at the Concourse almost twenty years ago. When we first moved to this area, my colleagues said that this is a must-try.

Still looking the same after so many years!

Almost two decades later, I found myself once again, sitting here, with a platter of their delicious roast meat mix right in front of me.

They are popular among the office crowd around here for a good reason.

Roasted meats!

Meat! Meat! And more meat!

Let’s start with their primary offering — roast meat.

I would suggest that if possible, go for the mixed platter of roast duck, char siew and roast pork belly; you won’t regret it.

The meat of the roast duck is tender, juicy and very flavourful. You can’t help, but salivate when you have a piece. The duck’s skin is shiny, crispy, and gives off a nice pop when you bite into it. The mix of crackling texture along with the tender, juicy meat is really fantastic!

Mouth-watering roast meat!

Sweet, sweet char siew.

The char siew, is sweet, but not overpowering so, with bits of caramelisation that gives it a bit of a crunch as well.

There is just enough fat to provide it with a pleasant sensation. It would seem like it’ll almost melt in your mouth!

Drool~~~

Crackly pork belly.

Finally, you have the pork belly, the one to complete the delightful trio. It is not the fattest of pork belly, but it does work well here. The skin is crackly, the fat melts in your mouth, and the meat is really tender.

The taste of the meats is enhanced by a nice slather of their sauces. The same sauce is also drizzled generously on the plain white rice they serve.

Also, the meat platter is generously garnished with a serving of their tasty pickled cabbage, just around the side of the plate.

Refreshing double-boiled soup.

Aside from the delicious and savoury meats, they also offer an excellent selection of double-boiled soup.

I had a portion of the salted vegetable duck soup today, and I must say it’s refreshing and an ideal accompaniment to the meal! All in all, it was a good, hearty lunch!

Mind the crowd, but worth it!

Crowd wise, I would recommend going for an early lunch or mitigate your expectations regarding the wait times. The assembly of customers tends to build up during lunch hours, and you would have to be patient for tables to be available.

However, if you’re not in a rush, I would definitely say it’s worth the wait!

A good, hearty lunch to recharge for the day!
