Frenzlink Cafeteria. A taste and view of history..
You could easily miss this historical gem along South Bridge Road if you aren’t working in the area. I only came to know Frenzlink Cafeteria through some friends who recommended that I check this place for their food selling at pretty reasonable prices.
Before I knew it, I found myself coming back for multiple visits over the next few weeks. I came not only for their food but also for something I will elaborate later.

Frenzlink Cafeteria, a treasure trove of food and images of old.
The place is a perfect example of historical rusticity. The furnishing is simple, well used, but clean.
Plastered on top of the serving window by the wall near the cafeteria’s end is the menu.

Simple menu.
Seven dishes, no more, no less.
That’s what they serve, day in, day out, Mondays to Fridays, except for the laksa, which is not available on Fridays.
They are closed on weekends and public holidays.
Over the next few weeks, I went back and had a serving of every single item on the menu for breakfast. Simplicity really is the game here.
The food is not fancy, and it might not be “up to the standard” or expectations for some. But to me, they’re all really delicious! 👍🏻😋

Through this window is where the action is.
After you place your order, just drop the payment into this plastic container by the side. Pick up a tray behind you and lay it in front of the serving window, your order will be with you in no time. Pick up your utensils on the right and off you go. Simple, fast, and efficient! 😎
Lor mee.
This is the dish I had on my first visit. Unlike the typical lor mee you would most commonly find out there, this one’s covered with crispy fried crackers. Give it a mix, and you’ll find yourself wolfing it all down in no time. My verdict? Thumbs up! 👍🏻
Prawn noodles.
Cooked in the old school style, like some of the previous prawn noodles I’ve written about, this one’s equally flavourful and delicious! The accompanying soup is full of umami, perfect! 🤤
Mee siam.
Served in a bowl, their delicious-looking mee siam as flavourful as any of the famous ones around. The sweet and sour taste of a warm bowl of this yummy dish is such a satisfying way to start the day. 👏🏻
Mee rebus.
Their mee rebus reminded me of the ones I had back in the primary school tuck shop. The thick, rich gravy has that spicy kick that makes for a hearty, delicious breakfast. 😋
Fishball soup noodle.
What more can I say about this soupy delight? It touches on the beautiful balance of old school delights. The springy noodles with the bouncy fishballs make for an excellent partnership of taste. 🥰
Mincemeat noodle.
Lush and savoury, the simple dish works best the way it is. Springy noodles topped with a generous serving of soya sauce mincemeat, this dish is as simple and as delicious as it can be—another way to start the day right. 🤤
Laksa.
This one is hard to beat, given the availability of many delicious laksa offerings out there. But they manage to pull it off. Even without cockles, their version of laksa is fantastic! Deliciously savoury, their laksa can definitely satisfy any craving for one of the most popular dishes in Singapore.
Besides the dishes mentioned, there is one stall/station selling economic bee hoon/noodles/rice for breakfast. I haven’t had a chance to order them, but will definitely find an opportunity to do so next time.
Pictures galore!
Aside from the delicious food, something else really prominent caught my attention. Photos. Namely, pictures of old Singapore were displayed all over the walls of Frenzlink Cafeteria.
I was amazed at the black and white images of so many old Singapore places, many which are no longer around. It was such a pleasant, surprising and precious discovery! 🤭

Photos of old Singapore. A treasure indeed!
I had a chat with the owner and found out that he actually bought the photos decades ago. He shared that it was costly to own a camera in those days, and he could only purchase the prints from a street hawker.
He was incredibly proud and happy to share these beautiful pictures with his customers. Apparently, many photographers have visited his place just to take photos of these photos! 😊
Frenzlink Cafeteria is indeed a rare discovery. Not only for their delicious tasting food that is economically priced but also for the photos of old Singapore that you can enjoy there.
I would highly recommend that you pay them a visit, for a simple breakfast meal, and for a good look at the Singapore of days past. 🥰
