Bitters & Love. Fantastic drinks with a brilliant kitchen! A rare find!

Most often, a place with good drinks doesn’t do well when it comes to their food. So when one of our friends sang the praise of Bitters & Love to us, she was met with a little scepticism even though we trusted her opinions.

Nondescript, well hidden hunt.

The day of our booking arrived, yes, you have to make a reservation for a particular time slot. I got there early and had to wait outside for my turn to enter as the table was still occupied by the previous party.

Cute.

The waiting area was comfortable, shaded, and they gave me a stack of drinking glasses and a flask of water. They kept me as comfortable as possible.

It’s also a coffee place.

The outside of the establishment was decorated with a bunch of cool drawings, it definitely drew quite a bit of attention.

Attention grabbing window for the curious onlookers.

I noticed a small window in the middle of the wall by the door, which had several people peeping in when they walked passed.

Very interesting. ?

I see you!

Soon, our table was ready. As we entered, there was this comfortable sense of cosiness as we were led to our seat, a four pax table comfortably separated from the next.

Cosy and comfortable.

With the wall of bottled whiskeys and other accompaniments backlighted beautifully and displayed, the bar counter was clearly positioned to be a centrepiece, a showcase to all visitors.

Nice bar counter.

The lighting was comfortable, enough for us to read the menu, and still maintain a level of privacy for our party of three. We sat down and went through the menu quickly. They arranged the cocktails on the menu in a visual “taste wheel” to help customers select the drinks according to their taste preference, nicely presented.

Wheel of flavours.

We know that they do customised cocktails as well but decided to just start with a set of cocktails directly from the menu.

Bottles of beauty.

𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱!

So how was it? Impressive! The first round has gone well thus far. The three of us had nothing but good praise for the cocktails we ordered. In addition to the cocktails, we also ordered a serving of fish tacos and their highly recommended wagyu beef cubes.

Delicious cocktail!

Our order of food soon arrived. The beef cubes were served sizzling hot on a cast iron pan with steam bellowing all over! We took a piece of the cube as it is from the pan, and wow! The deliciously fresh wagyu beef cubes literally melt in your mouth! Dip it with the saucer of salt, served by the side, and the flavours grew even more explosive! These beef cubes are definitely the perfect pairing for a nice, good glass of whiskey cocktail.

Buttery wagyu beef cubes!

The mini fish tacos are excellent too! It’s like having really lovely fried battered fish tacos, except in six small bites. Some might prefer the serving size to be bigger, but I think it’s just perfect for this establishment. It serves to complement your drinks and vice versa, nothing overpowering each other, like a cooperative band who works well together to deliver outstanding performances to the audience.

Fish tacos!

Next, we moved on to their custom cocktails. Their resident mixologist took his time to understand each of our tastes, and preferences before providing some recommendations and suggestions. It was an extraordinary experience, to go through this process of getting a drink customised just for you, a first for me.

Mixologist at work.

Soon our custom drinks arrived, and how they presented the drinks is mighty impressive. The amount of effort put into the presentation is like delivering an event. I think words can do no justice to it, one should go down and experience it for themselves.

Presentation is part of the fun!

Equally impressive were the drinks themselves. All three of us really love what was made for us. We were already thinking about what to order next while sipping our current one.

Mixing away!

The night went on with a couple of more rounds of drinks and some more food. I’ve never had so much whiskey cocktails before, and I capped the night off with a delicious, refreshing, gin-based cocktail that was really easy to drink. It was an excellent way to end the night.

Smokey goodness!

So my final verdict? I’m definitely coming back for more. Like I said at the beginning of this review, it is rare to find a drinking place where the drinks and food are both equally well received. And top it up with the cosy environment, and friendly crew, this is unquestionably a place to go pamper yourself.

I will definitely be coming back!

Cosy entrance.
