Qi Le Chicken Rice – Comfort meal in the heartlands
Qi Le Boneless Chicken Rice.
A dish surrounded by the passionate.
A dish of poached or roasted chicken served with fragrant flavoured rice that is almost a staple diet in Singapore. Most of us will have experienced the joys of a plate of chicken rice since we were kids. It is one of the popular dishes for many here, and we all have our personal favourites.

Tender, juicy, delicious chicken and liver!
Passion around this dish runs so deep that often, opinions of the stalls and their supporters have erupted into very public exchanges that at times would make the local news headlines.
Today, since we were in the neighbourhood, we got a chance to have a go at a relatively known stall in Ang Mo Kio, situated at a coffee shop beside the Ang Mo Kio Hub.

Steady stream of customers.
We arrived at the stall to a queue. Not too long a line, and moving steadily. Rows of freshly cooked, enticing looking chicken are hanging by the hooks on display. And it looks like the operators are used to managing a steady stream of customers during peak hours.

Rows of chicken ready to be served!
After taking orders from the customers, you see them spring into action, like well-oiled gears in a piece of high performing machinery. Regardless of the size of your orders, they were prepared and placed on the trays almost instantly. By the time you settled the bill, all would be ready for you.
An impressive spread.
Quickly I brought our order back to the table and laid them out. I would say that it’s an impressive spread for the price. A single set comes with a plate of chicken meat, a bowl of chicken rice, a choice of vegetables, and a bowl of soup.

An impressive spread!
You get to help yourself to your choice of the chilli and other condiments; we recommend having some of the handmade chilli sauce, it’s an excellent complement to spice up the meal.
We tucked in, and I must say that it’s one of the better chicken rice I’ve had. The rice is fluffy, not too oily, and deliciously flavourful! The chicken itself is tender, juicy, and they sauced it well. Mix it with a spoonful of rice, top it up with the chilli, and realise the full wonders of a perfect mouthful!

Fluffy fragrant rice.
The vegetables are a great complement to this meal. They are fresh, crunchy, and it feels delightful to have something to even out the savoury flavours of the chicken and rice. And the chicken liver is pleasing too! An outstanding addition, even if we had to pay extra for it! Thumbs up!

Fresh greens to balance out the meal!

Fresh and crunchy!
The soup is impressive. It’s a bowl of lotus root peanut soup, not the regular chicken flavoured soup that you get from other chicken rice stalls. Ordinarily, you’ll need to order this type of soup as a separate dish from stalls that specialises in serving double-boiled soup, but it’s part of every order here.
Even though it’s complimentary, it looks like they have put in considerable effort in cooking the soup correctly. It tasted like it’s been boiled over time to draw out the full flavours, but at the same time, further lightening the meal, a great approach to balance the wholesome meal perfectly!
An outstanding and accessible meal!
Our final verdict? An outstanding meal! Not only is it gratifying taste-wise, but it is also easily accessible, right in the middle of the heartlands.
We highly recommend that you go for it, especially if you’re staying in the neighbourhood!
