Offerings by Legendary Brands That Are Lauded by Hong Kong Stars

1. Hoover Cake Shop 豪華餅店: Egg Tart 蛋撻

There will be two kinds of Egg Tarts, which are from Hoover Cake Shop: puff pastry and butter cookie. The puff pastry boasts a buttery note similar to the classic croissant’s, but its layers are flakier and airier by comparison.

The butter cookie crust is firm, yet with one bite it crumbles in the mouth. Smooth, wobbly and creamy, the custard is made with high-quality eggs and butter, hitting just the right note of sweetness. These egg tarts have won the hearts of locals and many Hong Kong celebrities, including veteran actor Chow Yun-Fat (周潤發) and Liza Wang Ming-Chuen (汪明荃).

2. Kam Kee Café 金記冰室: Pineapple Bun 菠蘿包 & Hong Kong-style Milk Tea 港式奶茶

The Hong Kong Pineapple Bun hails from Kam Kee Café, a stalwart in Hong Kong’s cha chaan teng scene. It is firm on the outside with a sweet, crumbly golden crust that resembles a pineapple and covers almost the entire exterior to provide crunch in every bite.

The bun is also stuffed with a generous slab of fragrant premium butter in the middle (Bo Lo Yau, 菠蘿油) that melts within the soft warm bread. Other fillings such as kaya and luncheon meat will also be available.

The Hong Kong-style milk tea also follows Kam Kee’s secret recipe that calls for a blend of superior-quality tea leaves imported from Sri Lanka. European full cream evaporated milk is added to the brew to lend a moderately sweet flavour. This milk contains fewer fats and sodium compared to the general evaporated milk available in the market.

The tea is said to be a favourite of singer-actor Dicky Cheung (張衛健). It was also served at the 50th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting held in Davos, Switzerland, an international political event attended by dignitaries such as former US Vice President Al Gore, Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam (林鄭月娥), German Chancellor Angela Merkel and many another world political and business leaders.

Hong Kong-style Bubble Tea – Pearl of The Orient 东方之珠

Exclusive to Singapore will be the first-ever Hong Kong-style bubble tea. Named Pearl of the Orient (东方之珠), it is made with Joy Luck Teahouse’s milk tea, complemented with a generous amount of brown sugar tapioca balls.

The flavour and texture of the tea are created by the chemical reactions between the tea, milk, brown sugar, and the bonds between the starch in the tapioca balls. The creamy texture and sweetness of the mixture, complemented with the chewiness of the tapioca balls, make this drink perfect for quenching your thirst on a hot day! This drink also comes with a collagen version.

3. Tak Hing Fishball Company 德興魚蛋公司: Hong Kong Curry Fish Balls 咖喱魚蛋

Also available here are Hong Kong Curry Fish Balls, the most popular street food in the city. The fish balls are by Tak Hing Fishball Company: the freshly-made fish paste made from yellowtail fish is smooth and soft in texture, with 50% more fish than the regular fish balls in the market.

Tak Hing is famous for its authentic Hong Kong curry-flavoured fish balls and has earned a loyal following amongst celebrities such as Chow Yun-Fat (周潤發), Paula Tsui Siu-fung (徐小鳳) and Wong Cho-Lam (王祖藍) who called them the “Hong Kong Fishball King”.
